When we first found out we were going to have a baby we were both in agreement that we didn’t want to find out the sex. It was our first baby and besides, it was going to be dressed in tie dye anyway so what difference did it make.
Anyway, we decided on a Yellow Submarine nursery! I am a huge Beatles fan and was fairly certain I could pull off painting a couple of murals on the walls and decorate (along with throwing up every 15 minutes.) I tend to over simplify things sometimes…. and this was one of those times. While painting the walls was easy, going into labor a month before schedule, learning to breastfeed, and having a tiny preemie was not. I finally finished about a YEAR after I started and I couldn’t be more excited and pleased with the results!
Here is what the room looked like before.

You can see where I started to tape off my boundaries. You can also see our wall and ceiling colors.

Beginning supplies! Paint and glitter! We put glitter in the ceiling paint for a sky of diamonds. (See what I did there?) Haha!
Okay, next were the walls and ceilings.
From there I started the coral. The coral in the actual film is different colored stripes. For pete’s sake, I didn’t have the energy for that, so I settled for blocked out coral.
After that, I outlined it and striped it in black and painted the octopus for my garden.
For some weird reason, all of the plug-ins in this house were mid-way up the wall. After the octopus came the fish. You can see on the picture above where I had started. This is how pregnant I was at this point in the room. I was running out of time and you can see by the look on my face I know this too. Little did I know how low on time I actually was. Wyatt was born three weeks after this was taken and I was thrust into motherhood and taking care of a newborn so painting and pictures came to a quick halt. But, eventually I got things rolling again and finished just with less actions shots.
Here are the finished pictures of Wyatt’s finished nursery! I made it to the finish line and am so proud of my work! Enjoy!
The Beatles album painting hanging on the wall was a present and is painted by an artist named Steve Keene. If you are a music lover I suggest you look him up.
The nightlight for his room was purchased on Amazon.

In the movie this fish has two trees. This is personalized. Clay had bought me two trees for our anniversary and the tree in the middle is the tree we planted on Wyatt’s first birthday.
This rug! We got this rug on Zulily but you can purchase it here.
I hope this can give someone looking for some inspiration some ideas. If you have any questions just ask!
So we sailed on to the sun,
Till we found a sea of green,
And we lived beneath the waves,
In our yellow submarine.
